Purpose:
NISH provides on-site training to Federal Government customers on disability awareness. This workshop provides an understanding of disabilities in the workplace to sensitize individuals who have little or no experience working with people with disabilities. Some of the common misconceptions about people with disabilities will be explored. Further, participants will gain insights into what to expect from people with disabilities who may be co-workers or subordinates in the workplace. This introductory workshop provides a foundation for exploration of the participants' views on disabilities.
Audience:
This course is targeted toward representatives of procurement activities working with the AbilityOne Program.
Format:
The workshop relies on lecture, activities, open discussion and videos to illustrate the principles of disability awareness.
Instructor:
Betty Clark of the NISH South Regional Offce developed this training and serves as the lead instructor for this course. Clark's success bringing Disability Awareness training to NPAs, Federal agencies and other members of the AbilityOne family rests on her a broad knowledge of the issues and concerns facing individuals with disabilities and their employers.
"Customized on-site training has allowed us to maximize our staff's time and expand the numbers of persons who can participate in the NISH sponsored training. Travel time and expenses related to attending out of town training events often restrict who we can afford to send, with on-site training travel time and expenses are eliminated resulting in major savings to our company."
