Greening the Janitorial Business
Learning Objectives:
■ Learn the definition of Green Janitorial Services
■ Learn what is involved in making a janitorial project environmentally preferable
■ Learn how to select Green Products
■ Learn the 'Green' approach to training
■ Learn how to implement a Green Janitorial program, procedures and processes
■ Learn how to market the "Green Concept" to building managers and/or other potential customers such as project employees
■ Learn the basic concepts of good communication and stewardship in the cleaning industry.
Purpose:
This workshop introduces specific policies, practices and products to aid in making a janitorial project a healthier place for AbilityOne employees and building tenants while lessening the project's impact on the environment. The overall intent of the workshop is to develop a working definition of what "green cleaning" is and, of equal importance, what it is not. The following topics will be covered:
■ Defining Green Janitorial Services
■ Selecting Green Products
■ Implementing a Green Janitorial Program
■ The Importance of Communication in a Green Janitorial Program (The Stewardship Concept)
■ The Green Approach to Training
■ Green Janitorial Procedures and Processes
■ Internal Marketing of a Green Janitorial Program
Audience:
Mid-level managers and supervisors of AbilityOne janitorial contracts will find this course valuable. Federal agency personnel responsible for building management and contracting may also fnd this course valuable.
Format:
This is a 1.5-day course emphasizing classroom instruction.
Instructor:
Blaine Robinson of the NISH National Offce will serve as the instructor. Robinson has extensive experience in the field of community rehabilitation. He is one of NISH's custodial experts and has worked with the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled and the Federal Government on developing strategies associated with the "greening of AbilityOne."
