Business
Development 1: The Planning Process
Learning Objectives:
Purpose:
In today’s changing business
environment, sound
business planning is essential as NPAs seek ways to
expand their current business activities and diversify
into new areas and markets. NPAs list business
development and developing additional contract
opportunities as their greatest need. In this course,
participants learn to successfully develop business
strategies and conduct business planning from a
nationally known trainer who has helped hundreds of
nonprofits with business development initiatives.
Audience:
This course is designed for executive, senior, and
midlevel
management responsible for planning, program
development, and decision making related to business
development in the NPA.
Format:
This two-day program includes a combination of
interactive classroom instruction and discussion with
expert consultation on issues of particular concern
to participants. Follow up coaching and consultation will
be available on an as-needed basis to help participants
complete and implement their business plan.

Introduction to
Marketing
Learning Objectives:
Purpose:
Successful organizations know how to market well. They
identify their markets, find out what their markets want,
and provide products and services to meet those needs.
NPAs are no different. Through this course, participants
will learn how to focus their organizations on marketing,
how to identify and prioritize markets, how to develop
better marketing materials and surveys, use focus groups
and improve customer service.
Audience:
This course is designed for NPA staff responsible for
marketing and developing marketing plans. This is a
basic course that introduces core concepts and includes
hands-on applications.
Format:
This two-day course includes classroom instruction
supplemented by small group exercises and discussion.
Participants are strongly urged to bring samples of
marketing materials (brochures, direct mail pieces,
posters, etc.) to share, as this activity is a key element
of the course.
